I am writing this whilst shivering at my desk. The wooly layers are on and the wind is quite literally howling at me. through the cracks in the window frame- and somehow managing to pierce through my layers. Brrr. Just last week we had 30 degree sunshine; our little island is truly an eccentric one, isn't it? I actually quite like it's weird weather habits (infuriatingly true to the #embracingtheseasons brand, I realise!). Anyway: it's hard to believe, but May Day is tomorrow! This will be the 7th year I make May posies for friends to celebrate Spring; an idea I originally learned about on Lou's blog, many moons ago. The first day of May was once a cause for a big celebration. It's the official first day of summer according to the gaelic festival, Beltane, and featured May pole dancing, a May Queen, village fetes and May posies amongst other things. The 1st May is also Labour day; a day to mark labour rights, and to me these things work well together in a weird way. I like marking both.

I was invited recently to an event held by Fiskars to learn how to make a Terrarium. I'd been eyeing Terrariums appreciatively in magazines for years now, but I’d never attempted to make one so was pretty excited to be invited. We learned how to put our Terrariums together under the expert tutelage of James Wong who was scathing of the pre-potted varieties available in most shops. Many of these, he said, would last no more than 6 weeks. So I wanted to share what I learned on the day about making terrariums and some wider tips about styling Terrariums and plants at home.

Have you felt it yet?! Have you noticed the lighter mornings, the change in light, the snowdrops and crocuses?! Winter still undoubtedly reigns, but more signs of Spring are appearing everyday and I can feel the change in energy inside my bones, you know?!
The new light always makes me itchy for a Spring clean, and as we are about to have another baby, my need for a clean, decluttered and calm space has never been stronger. But. This doesn't always coincide with my desire to actually, you know, clean. I actually sort of....hate it.

February, the month of love (and pancakes- did I mention I was excited about the pancakes?) has kinda swept me up in her ardour. As a previous detractor of this holiday, I find this a little hard to admit too, but I can't help it, I am loved up! My cuppeth overflows with.. pregnancy hormones.
Dave and I have both been balancing finishing off freelance work, preparing for the baby, and trying to rest and relax as much as possible. But sometimes it’s been a little intense, shall we say, navigating all that, plus all the strong feelings and hormones in this house. Frankie-Rose is well aware of the seismic change happening to the foundations of our family and is processing accordingly, I have enough hormones pumping around me to make the strangers walking past my house weep, and Dave has been processing his own fatherhood and work stuff too....
