Spring is a great time for goal setting so I have opened the doors to my Life Book E-Course , which is all about dreaming and planning, and enrolments end tomorrow (Friday) at midnight. I have been emailing my list with some excerpts from the content and my top tips for making and keeping to goals. I wanted to share some here on the blog too.
Read How to make goals that stick here.
Spring goal setting- it’s a thing!
So first up- why Spring?! I know January is the traditional time for goal setting, new starts and resolutions. And when I first ran my E-Course in January over 100 people joined me to do just that,(but using my much kinder approach!) I actually like the quiet of winter for dreaming and planning and always have...
Spring is, in many ways, a much MUCH better time to set some goals and intentions and make them happen!
You’re not in a post holiday season/ winter fug. My desire for the holy triptych of sofa, Netflix and food is slowly ebbing away to be replaced with a desire to DO STUFF! Be outside! Make sh*it happen!
There is less pressure to perform! January comes with a lot of pressure- the new year, new you bs. Spring simply comes with the hope and inspiration of a new season.
Nature is growing. Rather than lying dormant (like I was, ha!) nature is teeming with life, and what better time to nurture and grow a goal than when nature is doing the same all around us?
There is so much more light! And it is so much more energising.
There is more time to actually think about it. Spring is full of bank holidays! The UK has quite a few, from the Easter holidays to two holidays in May. Spending a couple of hours working through some goals and intentions is a lovely way to spend a bank holiday.
Why do you talk about kindness so much?
The hardest hardest lesson I learned in doing the Life Book was that beating myself up was leading to nowhere. A few years into the process, I was looking back at consecutive years of ‘failures’ and I realised that my goals felt, well, bad.
Here are some of my mean past goals. Any of them sound familiar?!
Stop wasting evenings watching tv! Eat healthy! Stop frittering money away and start saving! Grow social media followers! Double my income! Lose weight! Stop mindlessly scrolling! Finally start exercising! Declutter my entire life in one go!
These goals made me feel guilty, were rooted in a general sense of inadequacy, of not accepting myself, felt like self punishments, often involved threatening and bribing myself, felt bad and ultimately didn’t work.
When I consciously practiced kindness to myself, it changed everything.
When I chose to consciously speak about myself in a kind way, focussed on the things I had done well at; when I chose to amplify the bits of my life that had a sweet sense of alignment and joy and consciously celebrated the things I had done well at my goals changed, and so did my life.
I am not perfect at this process, and still need to be conscious and careful of my self talk and hold myself accountable. But progress toward my goals skyrocketed when I practiced kindness to myself. And I felt so much better about myself!
So many planning and goal setting frameworks use self punishment and feelings of not good enough as the motivation, but my system continually prompts kindness, and encourages positive self talk.
*If you take anything away from this post, let it be this. Be kind to yourself! *

Can this really change my life?!
It’s a bold claim eh?! But yes, it can. It’s beautifully simple and it digs into YOUR inner wisdom; not some carbon copy of of someone else or a version of what you think you *should* want. It helps you to draw on what you already know, what you’ve already learned, and helps you simply to apply it. After all, most of us already have the knowledge we need to make life changing plans and decisions sat there inside us, just waiting to be uncovered.
The Life Book has had the most incredible affect on my life; on my mental health, my marriage, my work and my passions. This was a revolutionary and deeply personal process for 8 whole years before I released it more widely. Without word of exaggeration, I credit the Life Book process for some mega life changing decisions. From entirely changing the direction of my business to figuring out if we wanted a family to choosing again and again to work on our marriage. Career decisions, coach hiring, health changes, house moves. Radical-seeming decisions to step back off the grind, choose self-care, health and family, and to make more time for play and joy.
Ultimately, it has helped us identify what is important to us and clarified the actions to sculpt our lives around that. The system is effective because of how little opportunity modern living gives us to just look at our lives. We get so caught up in the fast-pace and detail of our everyday that we forget to stick our heads up above the noise and just look at where we are against where we’d like to be. It’s so simple, yet so flippin’ powerful.
It has now helped hundreds of others to clarify their big picture and take life changing steps towards it.
