March! A whole new season! What a hopeful, life-filled month this is. The ground is already teeming with new life, evidenced in the delicate cups of the crocuses shyly opening toward the sun, and the hanging heads of snowdrops bobbing in the wind. Daffodils are trumpeting and the bird song is intensifying by a few decibels each morning too. If you manage to catch the sun in a windless moment, it feels gently warm on your face, a sweet promise of what’s to come.
My first born turns 7 in a few days, and my baby turned 2 last week. I have been feeling emotional/sad/excited about my kiddo’s getting older, and trying to drink in their kidishness as much as possible.
Elsewhere, I’m preparing to open the doors of my dreaming and planning e-course, The Life Book, later this month. I still have tickets left to my Spring Day retreat too. I have decided not to run any more day retreats for the time being, so if you want to come, this might be the last chance this year.
I have also been groping around after my mojo after epically losing it. The result of what I think is burn out after a (too) busy end of year mixed with a change in medication. But, Spring brings hope, light and energy and I am starting to find my feet again.
Here are 10 wonderful things to make, do, and celebrate in the month ahead
Eat pancakes! Pancake day is TODAY! It's unusually late this year and honestly my favourite day of the year. We’ll be eating pancakes all week!
Celebrate the Spring equinox on the 20th March. Spring is so very nearly here! I will prepare a little celebration for my kiddos, where we get out the spring books and bake something springy and I sometimes buy them a little something too.
The equinox marks the first quarter point of the year, and is a great time to review your January goals and bid farewell to winter. Look back and celebrate your wins, write down what you are releasing/forgiving, adjust or pivot anything that isn’t working, then firm up what is working. I’m opening my Life Book e course again later this month for those of you who would like some goal setting and planning guidance!
Mothers day is right at the end of this month, on the 31st. Celebrate your mum, or someone who has been like a mum to you. I always prefer experiences over things. If it’s a sad day for you for whatever reason (My mum died when I was 10 so this day was super sad for me for nearly two decades) I hope you have something lovely planned- you probably deserve it more.
Get ready for world book day on Thursday. Oh the pressure. Frankie wants to be Ginny from harry Potter. We do not have any of that costumer. Hmm. (also, I was recently made aware of how racist Dr Seuss books are- a note of caution to other parents. He had the opportunity to revise his works in the 90’s and didn’t, this is recent - read more here)
Celebrate international women day on Friday 8th- but make it inclusive of all women. Write letters/emails/texts of thanks to the influential women in your life.
Go on a daffodil walk, visit the snowdrops in the woods, note the abundance of cyclamen and acolytes and seek out the crocuses too.
Make a spring wreath. Wreaths are for life, not just for Christmas! I’ll be sharing a tutorial about how to make one soon, and am teaching a workshop on Saturday 23rd March in my home. More details here. Use local seasonal spring branches and blooms if you can responsibly find them.
If you’e feeling the Spring Cleaning itch, have a look at my recipes to make your own eco friendly cleaning supplies.
Feed the nesting birds. March is the month that most birds will start building their nests and fighting for territory- this makes for interesting and super sweet bird watching, especially with kids. Don’t forget to feed them.
