Gosh, January is over! It felt a little eternal, did it not? I love the first month of months, full of such hope and promise, but long it was. I had an unintentional break from blog/social media life but now that It's over I wanted to take a look back at this hectic yet magical month and remember some of it.
I think I spent most of it decompressing after the busiest autumn/winter i've ever had in my career- all done whilst quite pregnant. It was wonderful but I've felt a strong need to just hibernate and love on my little family this month so that's just what I've done. The painful world political situation has not helped my hide-away-from-the-world vibes either. I haven't done any shoot days or events, which has been wonderful, but I have had some features to write up for magazines and a few blog posts to write too so I've still felt a little busier than I'd like. I have made time for relaxation and rest in the midst of it though, and my main focus has been to mentally prepare for the birth. I finished my hypnobirthing sessions and doula sessions (I cannot recommend these two businesses highly enough!) and have been spending time every day listening to my birth affirmations and visualising a positive, calm birth. This is for another post, but it's been amazing.
I've been busy sorting piles and piles (and piles!) of Frankie-Rose's old baby things and making sure we have enough of what we need. I'm attempting to buy as little as possible this time round as we have it all and can borrow the rest. I'm currently setting up a little baby nook in our small bedroom which is making me feel all the nesty broody things.
Dave and I went away to Elmley, one of our favourite places on the planet, earlier in the month to do some New Year thinking and planning and it was so so wonderful, a true gift to ourselves, to spend 2 whole days just enjoying each other's company and thinking and planning for the new year. We worked though our January book (which i'll blog about one of these years!) where we review the previous year and plan for the year ahead. We looked at our income vs time and where we hope to move our careers too. We talked about how our family will change, and how we want things to feel. It was truly, truly wonderful. It's something that seemed to resonate with lots of you on Instagram, and something we are going to try to do every year - babies allowing (!) Look how beautiful it is!
I spent some time with some inspiring, creative people this month too which has been nourishing in a whole different way. I hung out with local potter Lucy Rutter in her amazing studio space, had a lovely coffee and catch up with Louise and Gemma, and had the pleasure of hanging out with Emma Harris from A Quiet Style Too. I have a whole separate blog post about learning as a stylist and creative but needless to say I find spending time with other creatives and stylists one of the most enriching things I can do for my career. I highly recommend a 1:1 session with Emma if you want to learn more about styling or push yourself to the next level.
I have also been enjoying my hilarious, sparky, articulate and expressive nearly 5 year old girl. She has found some of the changes tricky at times but is so very excited to meet her baby brother. I have been making sure to spend as much 1:1 time with her as possible, filling her up with my love. Lots of baths together and cafe trips and playing with her ponies and lots of 'sleepovers' when Dave has been away too. I am mourning the end of our days as a twosome, yet I am excited about whats to come... my raw mama heart!
SO, January. I bid you farewell.
February.....month of love. Month of my new babe. I cant wait to see what you hold...
P.S I know things have been quiet here but I have scheduled a few posts in advance, including my Sunday supplement, plus ideas to celebrate Galentines and Valentines (!) so expect more in this space over the next week. x
