October is here, bringing with it true autumn; a darkening, pretty leaves, hazy golden light.
I can feel the change within me. Physically, I’m tireder, heavier. Yes- probably something to do with the pregnancy- but its psychological too. I’m getting ready to hibernate. My body is starting to gently pull on my busy mind, reminding me that soon it will be time to slow down; something I need doubly this year due to the tiny wriggling being growing inside me.
I love the rituals of Autumn. The preparation for winter. Refreshing our wooden clothes, unearthing the sheepskins, ordering candles. I polished my boots; something that never fails to remind me of my Dad, and the almost reverential way he looked after our school shoes and prepared them for a new term. The logs were delivered a couple of weeks ago and we greeted the first fire of the season like a beloved old friend. We have been loving reading our Autumn kids books. The pregnancy and change of season has also meant that I’ve been busy nesting, sprucing and pottering around the house. We have painted our downstairs a with a fresh coat of white paint, and everything feels fresh and new. I’ll share the results over the coming weeks.
