Despite the entirely misplaced snow flurries many of us Brits have experienced this week, there is no doubting the ever strengthening Spring. The Horse Chestnut is a joy to watch at this time of year; it's small, curved green fingers grow at an almost visible rate; blooming into graceful full bodied hands. My Hydrangea is tantalisingly close to producing flower buds and my honeysuckle has already sent out a few cautious leggy blooms. May Day; a joyous Spring celebration; is fast approaching, and, just like in centuries past, there are May celebrations planned all over the country; celebrating fertility and new life.
Like the previous few years I am planning to make May Day posies for friends. I first discovered the tradition of giving May Posies or baskets via Lou's blog, and it's a tradition that slowly being revived. What a lovely excuse to give your neighbours or friends a little floral pick me up? Lou has started a #maydayposies Instagram hashtag this year so do join in, if you feel so inclined.
You can read the full tutorial of how to make these watercolour cones here.
This year, I'm incorporating May Posies into my May workshop (I just released a further 2 tickets if you fancy joining me) and will be hanging posies on my friends doors with the help of a certain May fairy...
To May, dear friends!
P.S I'm writing the May Sunday Supplement at the moment- due to be delivered this Sunday! Hurrah! If you haven't already, you can sign up on my side bar. It contains ideas of things to make, do and celebrate in May, links and blog posts from around the web that have stopped me in my tracks, as well as well as what i'm eating/reading/wearing/listening too. I'd love you to be part of my list!
