Hannah here: Prosecco. Brunch. Girl friends. As you will have already gleaned from us, we are pretty excited about Galentines day, a brilliantly ordained day to celebrate your female friendships. It falls on the 13th February and is a wondrous invention by Leslie Knope, fictional star of Parks and Recreation, one of my favourite sitcoms. I have sent silly little notes and presents to my friends on Valentines Day long before I’d come across Galentines Day. I have always liked the idea of expressing love for your mates, as well as your significant other, if you have one. Valentines for romantic love only?! Nah. Share the love! I can think of nothing better than brunch with my friends this valentines.
I’m going out for dinner to celebrate with some girl friends in London on the 13th (actual Galentines Day), then i’m heading back to Kent on Saturday morning to cook a brunch for some friends on Valentines day. We have asked our partners to watch the kids as a valentines present to us, and I am pretty pink-fluffy-heart-excited about it. Bring on the sparkles! Heres what I’m planning.
- Free flowing Prosecco Royales, using homemade Creme De Cassis
- Shakshuka with crusty bread spears (The sauce can be made in advance, then simply crack the eggs on top and pop it in the oven on the day)
- Raspberry American pancakes with streaky bacon, berry sauce and creme fraiche. (sauce can be made in advance. Advance for the win.)
I dreamed about a pillow of raspberry pancakes last night. I shit you not.
I have put together a pretty rocking Galentines Day play list of new, (or new to me) lesser known female artists to play on the day. I'll also be grooving to a bonus playlist from my muso mate Laurel, which charts a relationship journey from infatuation to broken hearted and it’s BRILLIANT. So much good music. We will be sending both playlists exclusively to our Facebook friends and Newsletter subscribers, as a little thank you to our Seeds and Stitches girl gang (yes, we know most of you are female!) So if you’d like to receive it, sign up here, or like us on Facebook. (we’re quite new to Facebook too, please come say hi!)
Emilie has smashed it again. She has designed two free-printable Galentines day cards for you to print out and give to your friends. When I thought about my group of friends; the brave decisions, amazing voluntary work, the carrying of babies in stomach skin, the inspiring gentle parenting, the creativity, the jobs they do and the sheer amount of juggling…. I thought; they’re amazing. Capable, strong…She wolves, basically. I think they’re she wolves. Yep. So Emilie helped me to express it. The other (bad ass bitch) is a little reminder to help us to power through our days. I kinda love both designs ALOT. (scroll to bottom of post for printables)
I've made a few simple decorations for the day. The wash tape place settings are just strips of washi tape on card, cut it out in a heart shape and stamped. I used the same technique to make the valentines paper chains too, and stapled them together. (glue doesn’t work very well as washi tape is slightly waxy) I have been looking for an excuse to make this wool tassle garland so I went for it for G day because why the hell not. Here is the tutorial. I also cut out some “o x o x”'s from paper and card, punched them with a hole punch and strung them up. All very simple, especially the paper based ones, and can easily be whipped up in an evening.
Are you celebrating Galentines Day this year? It’s totally not too late if you want to organise your own do. It could be at any point in February; just you, one of your best mates or twenty of the finest bad ass bitches you know. Why the devil not, we say.
P.S More Galentines loving over on Pinterest
Aaaand here are the printables, for personal use only, with love from us. (Thanks Emilie!)
