Little Nan's Bar at The Talbot
Hannah here: Our little family has been busting it up to London quite frequently in recent weeks, for numerous reasons, and I can’t say I’m too unhappy about it. Last weekend was a foodie corker. It started with a baby free night out with friends, at the new Little Nans pop up bar in the Talbot in Brockley. A previously slightly soulless upstairs pub room transformed into granny chic cocktail den. The Peckham Prince was a delicately flavoured winner, the choose your own tea cup malarkey is a siren call to any self respecting lifestyle blogger/Instagram addict and the teapots are enough to feed 3, so it's actually pretty reasonable. (Thanks to Zoe for the tip!)
Street Feast at Lewisham Model Market
Following our cocktails we headed down to Lewisham for dinner. Yes, you read that correctly. I used to live in Lewisham, which was hitherto famous for being pretty scuzzy and studenty, and boasted things like some of the highest street crime and STI rates in Europe. Well, colour me seven shades of surprised, but Lewisham it seems is undergoing somewhat of a hipster revolution. Street Feast have just opened in the old model market, and we couldn't wait to check it out. After a short queue and a bit of unwanted attention from some pissed blokes, we were in, our nostrils hungrily attempting to identify the myriad of different foods being cooked in the old market stands around us. Much of the old patina and charm of the original market remain in tact and I loved the feel of the place. Its oozing with cool, of course, but the food was also incredible. Crispy tofu steamed buns were light as a feather, the salted caramel brownies were out of this world, the boozy slushies were a blast from the past, and the taco's were excellent, too. Definitely worth braving Lewisham for.
Pollen Street Social
The following day, we met up with my family to celebrate my brothers graduation, which we did so in great style at Pollen Street Social, James Atherton's restaurant. My words couldn’t do justice to the food, or the dramatic flair in which it was served and presented, I shall attempt to let the photo’s do that. But better yet, get yourself along. Perhaps to celebrate something, like we did, or to treat yourself. Their set lunch is pretty reasonably priced, although I can’t vouch for it as we went A La Carte. Apart from a slightly unaccomodating member of staff who wasn’t willing to hold the table for my family who had been delayed in the London Pride crowds, it was an excellent luncheon, amongst excellent company. And the presentation?! Um, wow.
At post dinner drinks where my dad was staying, Durrants.
So after all of those incredibly varied and wonderful eating and drinking experiences, we drove home to Kent and I heaved myself, and my very happily filled belly, in to bed at 8 pm, totally crashed out.
So, Lewisham. Seriously. Check it out.
