Last month I threw a simple summer Solstice dinner party for friends. I really enjoyed pulling together the details- the Dogwood Rose garland, the bundles of herbs for the place setting, the table flowers, the fire, but actually, the thing I loved most about the evening was simply being with my friends; something I haven't done much of recently due to work. Having rained for most of the day, the sun came out in the late afternoon so we gathered in the garden and toasted the setting sun, then threw some sage into the fire as a sort of cleansing, a symbolic burning of things we want to let go of. Then we gathered round the table and ate a meal prepared by everyone, and talked and laughed and stayed up to late (it was Monday night afterall!)
I felt physically and emotionally lighter in the following days, and I was reminded yet again of how much I need to have my friends and family around me, especially when I feel like I'm too busy to see them. Here are some photo's of the set up and I even managed to make a video too! The video was made for Stitch + Forage subscribers, to go along with the third module, 'Gather'. The point of this module is to simply encourage people to gather- whether that's with 1 other person or 10 friends (or more!) I talk about the importance of this sort of simple community and the needlessness of being bogged down in the details or feeling you don't have enough space or nice 'stuff' to host a dinner party. (You do, and 'stuff' doesn't matter) I then detail all of my tips to throw a relativeley effortless dinner party. including a countdown planner, a list of my most trusted suppliers, free printable invitation, and all of my styling tips too. Phew! I'll be demonstrating lots of my styling tips this Saturday at Kino Vino- details here.
The music on the video is by Gaps, with permission. I am in the middle of shooting a series of video's for my new Youtube channel too. The Stitch + Forage video's have given me the itch for video! The series will be focussed on event and table styling, and later down the line interior styling too. I have uploaded some of the video's that we have made for Stitch + Forage subscribers so you can see some of the things we have been doing too. Check it out here.
P.S I am playing major catch up this month so expect more from me this week! I know, that will mean 3 blog posts in 1 week. Who am I?! Back on the ball, thats what. (hah)
