Davina here - Firstly Happy May Day to everybody! I really can't believe its May already and that it means Bonnie will be 6 months this month - How quickly time has flown - so much quicker than with Elfie. If you have more than one child did you find that too?
This year I have had great fun playing with flowers for May Day posies. I started of thinking I would make a May Day Posy Flower Ball for my dearest and physically nearest friends (its nice to be able to hand deliver May Day posies) but the truth be told that I made one and soon realised I needed an alternative plan as it just took too long. I looked around my kitchen and saw on the window sill above the sink three empty milk bottles waiting to be taken out = perfect. I am one of a close friendship group of four local mums - Jelena, Kat and Rhian and me so three bottles was just meant to be. I arranged flowers in each one and then cheated and asked my husband to deliver when I put the girls to bed.
I really like the idea of using milk bottles for May Day Posies for five reasons:
- It gives you friend a vase
- It helps the flowers last longer as in a good amount of water
- Milk bottles are left on your doorstep - so it is nice to put them on somebody's else door step as a surprise
- Its quick and easy and involves no making except for arranging the flowers
- Its environmentally friendly as recycling the bottles
I attached a little tag to the bottles to say 'Happy May Day' - you don't need to do this but it helps to make it clear to receivers that the gift is to celebrate the coming summer.
