Hannah: Davina and I went to Blogtacular, an ace blogging conference, on Saturday and oh my, what a treat. We heard inspiring talks from Will Taylor ("Stick to your niche guns!") Anne Ditmeyer ("don't work for free!"), Keith and Mark from Mini Moderns ("Your brand is a set of values and beliefs that should be communicated in everything you do!") and also Lara Watson, Kate Carter, Caroline Taylor and Heather Young on a brilliant panel of the editors ("don't pitch a column!"). On Xanthe Berkely's inspiring photowalk we were encouraged to seek colour in unexpected places and play with composition. And Ellie Tennant gave us a hands on styling course which could have been written directly for me. I have never taken notes so fast. Natalie Lue's closing talk was wonderful, tailored to bloggers specifically and incredibly inspiring: "creativity is a habit". "Don't be afraid to do the unexpected". "Blogging and sharing your creativity challenges you to become the person you are meant to be". um, wow.
But the highlight was meeting some online friends in person. I spent quite a lot of the day with Laura from Circle of Pines who is utterly lovely, as well as Sarah-Lou from LapinBlu. It was brilliant to see Alexa again, from Something I made, as well as meet new friends, like the ladies from Wild Rumpus (and many more!). With my writer and stylists hat on, It was amazing to finally meet the editors of the Guardian and Mollie Makes, two people who I've worked for in the past and hope to work for again.
Also, the goody bags were brilliant! They're normally a bit rubbish- full of promotional leaflets, but nope. Kat and Kat, the organisers, are releasing virtual tickets so if you didn't get to go, you can still hear all the talks. Also the first few people to sign up will get one of the goody bags, which is pretty awesome.
It was brilliant. just our sort of things. Full of creative people, inspiring talks from people we love, hands on workshops...We will definitely be there next year! You?
